A scan that's hard to read defeats the purpose. These eight habits take a few seconds each and make a visible difference.
1. Use even light
Daylight from a window is ideal. Avoid a single strong lamp that creates bright glare on glossy paper.
2. Keep your own shadow out
Check where your hand and phone cast shadows. If a shadow crosses the page, rotate yourself or the page until it disappears.
3. Choose a contrasting background
White paper on a dark table lets edge detection find the page reliably. White on white is much harder.
4. Hold the phone parallel to the page
Shooting at an angle makes one side smaller and blurrier. Aim straight down, centered over the page.
5. Fill the frame — but keep all four corners
Get close enough that the page fills most of the screen, while every corner stays visible.
6. Adjust the corners
In DocLensr, the crop screen starts from the detected outline. Drag the four corners until they sit exactly on the page edges.
7. Pick the right filter
Contrast+ suits most text documents, Black & White gives maximum contrast for printed text, Grayscale keeps shading, and Original preserves color.
8. Zoom in before you save
Pinch to zoom on numbers, dates and signatures. If anything is blurry, retake that page now — it's much easier than asking for the document again later.
